Barista面试中如何回答「What are your strengths and weaknesses」

简短回答

优点 → 缺点 → 平衡. 一个有证据的优点,一个附带行动的真实缺点,两部分都简短、平衡。

「What are your strengths and weaknesses」是英国Barista面试中最常见的问题之一。这里有一个简单的结构、一个你可以改写成自己版本的示例,以及会削弱好答案的常见错误。

问题

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

回答的简单结构

  1. 优点: 说一个对这份工作重要的优点,再用一句简短的话给出证据。
  2. 缺点: 说一个不属于这份工作核心的真实缺点,以及你为此做的一件事。
  3. 平衡: 两部分长度差不多,整个回答控制在一分钟左右。以你采取的行动结尾,而不是以问题结尾。

回答示例

My strength is keeping the bar clean and organised during a rush, so the next drink is always quick to make. My weakness is that my latte art is still not consistent. I practise a few designs after my shift when it is quiet, and my simple designs are now reliable, though I am still working on the more detailed patterns.

为什么这样有效: 一个有证据的优点,一个附带行动的真实缺点,两部分都简短、平衡。

示例是英文的,因为面试时你要说的就是英文。说明用中文,是为了帮助你写出自己的版本。

中文母语者的常见错误

  • Reluctance to self-promote
避免: I am just an ordinary employee, nothing special.
改说: I consistently exceeded my targets and received two promotions.
    在中文文化中谦虚是美德,但英语面试中需要自信地展示自己的成就。
  • Missing subject "it"
避免: Is very important to prepare.
改说: It is very important to prepare.
    在中文里不需要形式主语,但英语中"it"作为形式主语不可省略。
  • Word-for-word translation of idioms
避免: I want to give you a horse power. (加油)
改说: I want to encourage you. / You can do it!
    在中文里的成语和惯用语不能直接翻译成英语,需要找对应的英语表达。
  • L/R confusion in pronunciation
避免: Pronouncing "really" as "leally" or "lead" as "read"
改说: For "r" curl tongue back without touching the roof; for "l" touch the ridge behind teeth
    在中文里"r"和"l"的区别不如英语明显,需要特别注意舌头位置。

关于英国Barista职位的说明

在英国,咖啡师面试看重早高峰时兼顾速度与准确,以及对常客的友好。提到保持吧台清洁、一次做对饮品,以及排队变长时保持镇定。

常见问题

「What are your strengths and weaknesses」的回答应该多长?
控制在大约45到60秒。用上面的结构保持条理,讲清楚了就停下来。
回答「What are your strengths and weaknesses」需要完美的英语吗?
不需要。B1–B2水平、清晰有条理的英语就够了。面试官更在意能否听懂你,而不是语法是否完美。
我应该逐字背下自己的回答吗?
不要。学结构,不要背稿。背下来的回答听起来很平,而且一被追问就散了。用自己的话大声练习。
