What a accountant recruiter in India may look for
The points on this page are things a recruiter may look for. No page can tell you what one interviewer will decide, and preparing does not promise a result. It shows you what to practise next.
- A finance manager may look for careful month-end work and reconciliations, and experience with accounting software.
- A recruiter may listen for how you find and fix differences, step by step.
How interviews often run in India
These published notes describe general preparation. They do not confirm one employer's process. Check your invitation, and ask the recruiter if anything is unclear.
- Campus and early-career hiring often runs an aptitude test, then a coding or technical round, then an HR round. Consultancies usually screen by phone or video before that. (Source: placementpreparation.io, naukri.com)
- The HR round is commonly described as the stage where communication and composure are assessed rather than technical depth. Practise your opening minute out loud until it is automatic. (Source: faceprep.in, placementpreparation.io)

Common mistakes for non-native speakers
In India, interviews often start with a friendly talk. Answer each question fully. Your results can come later in the talk. The evidence you give is the same; only the order changes.
- Instead of "I did the accounts": say: "I did the monthly bank reconciliations and prepared the month-end reports". Naming the tasks helps the interviewer match you to the role.
- Instead of "There was a mistake": say: "I found a difference between the bank and the ledger, traced it and corrected it". Saying how you found and fixed it shows your method.
- Instead of short forms from your home country: Say the full name of the system or standard you used. A local interviewer may not know the short form.
- Instead of "I am careful": say: "Before I send a report, I check the totals against last month and ask why anything changed". Describing your checks shows the care instead of claiming it.
