Common mistakes for non-native speakers
In Saudi Arabia, interviews often start with a friendly talk. Answer each question fully. Your results can come later in the talk. The evidence you give is the same; only the order changes.
- Instead of "The customer was angry and I said calm down": say: "I listened, said sorry for the problem and offered to check the stock or call my manager". A recruiter may notice whether you calm the situation or add to it.
- Instead of "I am honest": say: "One day my till was short at the end of the shift. I told my supervisor straight away and we counted it together". An example shows honesty more clearly than the word.
- Instead of "I don't know": say: "Let me check that for you". It keeps the customer with you while you find the answer.
- Instead of a very long story: About one minute: what happened, what you did, how it ended. Short answers leave time for the interviewer's follow-up questions.
