Our rota includes weekends and some early starts. How would that work with the rest of your week?

About this question

  • Type: Motivation
  • Usually asked: Main interview
  • Job: Care worker
  • Country: The UK

What the interviewer may be listening for

These are things an interviewer may listen for. No page can tell you what one interviewer will decide. Practising helps you prepare; it does not promise a result.

  • The interviewer may want to know: Will you turn up for the shifts the rota actually needs?
  • A recruiter may look for reliability across early, late and weekend shifts, because care rotas depend on cover.

A 3-line answer shape

Say these in order. Use short sentences and one true example from your own life.

  1. Line 1: Clear days and times you can work.
  2. Line 2: How you will travel for an early start.
  3. Line 3: A backup plan if something goes wrong.

A weaker answer and a stronger answer

Read both answers, then compare them.

A weaker answer may sound like this

Yes, no problem. I can do anything you need.

What a stronger answer covers

A stronger answer is short and specific. It covers clear days and times you can work; how you will travel for an early start; a backup plan if something goes wrong. It uses one real example from your own work, told with "I", not "we".

Why the stronger answer works better

Why the first one is weaker: It agrees, but it says nothing specific. The interviewer cannot hear your real reasons, plans or limits, so they cannot rely on it.

Use the stronger one as a pattern, not a script. Change every detail to your own true story.

A2-friendly version

The question in simple words: "Can you work weekends and early mornings? How will you get to work?"

Simple English is fine. Start with one of these sentences and finish it with your own words:

  • I can …
  • On … days, I …
  • If there is a problem, I will …

What this site cannot tell you

These pages describe what interviewers commonly look for. They cannot tell you what a specific interviewer decided, and nothing here guarantees an interview, an offer or a visa. Practising is preparation — it shows you what to fix next.
