What a office administrator recruiter in Singapore may look for
The points on this page are things a recruiter may look for. No page can tell you what one interviewer will decide, and preparing does not promise a result. It shows you what to practise next.
- A manager may look for speed, accuracy and confident use of office systems.
- A recruiter may listen for how you improve a slow admin process.
How interviews often run in Singapore
These published notes describe general preparation. They do not confirm one employer's process. Check your invitation, and ask the recruiter if anything is unclear.
- Interviews usually open with 'Tell me about yourself'. The government careers service publishes guidance on that self-introduction, so prepare a one-minute version. (Source: content.mycareersfuture.gov.sg)

Sentence starters for a office administrator interview
Fill in the gaps with your own work. Simple English is fine.
Managing many tasks at once
I had … tasks at the same time, for example … I listed them and did … first, because … I told my manager about … Everything was finished by …
A mistake you fixed
I made a mistake with … I noticed it when … I fixed it by … and told … Now I always check …
Common mistakes for non-native speakers
In Singapore, interviewers often like you to say your result clearly. Say "I did this", not "I helped a little". The evidence you give is the same; only the way you say it changes.
- Instead of "I am organised": say: "I keep a daily list and I sort my tasks by deadline". A recruiter may want to hear how you organise, not only that you do.
- Instead of "I am good at computers": say: "I used spreadsheets for the stock list, and the booking system every day". Naming the tools and what you did with them is easier to believe.
- Instead of "OK" on the phone when you are not sure: say: "Could I take your name and number? I will call you back today". It is polite, and it gives you time to find the right answer.
- Instead of very direct words in an email example: say: "Could you please send the form by Friday? Thank you for your help". Polite phrases may matter more in office English than in your first language.
