How interviews often run in Ireland
These published notes describe general preparation. They do not confirm one employer's process. Check your invitation, and ask the recruiter if anything is unclear.
- Competency-based interviews are the norm, especially in the public sector: the board asks for one concrete example per competency and then asks follow-up questions about it. Prepare a bank of stories before the day. (Source: publicjobs.ie)
- Larger employers often run a phone or recorded video screen and an online ability test before a first and second interview. Graduate schemes may add an assessment centre. (Source: gradireland.com)

Common mistakes for non-native speakers
Interviews in Ireland often ask for one real example for each skill, and then ask more questions about it. Say what you did and what happened, in short sentences. A true example is better than big words like "the best". The evidence you give is the same; only the way you say it changes.
- Instead of "I am strong and fast": say: "I kept a steady pace and always followed the safe lifting steps". A supervisor may listen for safety as much as speed.
- Instead of "It is not my job": say: "I would stop, tell my supervisor and wait until it is safe". Reporting a hazard is part of every warehouse job.
- Instead of "I did many things": say: "I did picking with a scanner, packing and loading the vans". Naming the tasks and equipment helps the recruiter match you to the shift.
- Instead of only saying "yes" to a new instruction: say: "So I start in zone C, and then I help with loading at ten?". Repeating the instruction shows you understood it.
