Job Description Decoder
Paste a job advert and see what it is actually asking for, which requirements are firm and which are hopeful, and the words worth reusing in your answers.
Who it is for
Anyone with a job advert and an interview coming up, especially when the advert is long, uses unfamiliar English, or lists many requirements. It helps you decide which two or three examples from your work to prepare, instead of trying to prepare for everything.
What it checks
- The five to seven interview questions the advert makes most likely, ranked.
- What an interview panel may be listening for in each answer.
- The duties and requirements that matter most, so you can choose which examples to prepare.
How to use it
- Paste the whole advert — the summary, the duties and the requirements (at least 80 characters).
- Read the likely questions and choose one real example from your work for each.
- Practise the top two out loud before the interview.
What it cannot do
- It predicts likely questions from the advert's words. It cannot know what a particular interviewer will ask.
- A short or very general advert gives less to work with, so the questions will be more general too.
- Nothing is stored against your name.
Common questions
How can a job description tell me the interview questions?
Adverts list the duties and skills the employer cares about, and interview questions usually test those. The decoder turns them into likely questions.
Do I need an account?
No. Paste the advert and get the questions. It is free.
Does it work for any job?
Yes, for any advert written in English — care, warehouse, retail, office or technical roles. The longer and clearer the advert, the more specific the questions will be.
