Interview question of the day: 18 October 2026

The question for 18 October 2026

Do you have any UK work experience?

About this question

  • Type: Local experience
  • Usually asked: Screening call
  • Job: Any job
  • Country: The UK

What the interviewer may be listening for

These are things an interviewer may listen for. No page can tell you what one interviewer will decide. Practising helps you prepare; it does not promise a result.

  • An interviewer may want to know if your skills will work in this country, and if you understand the local way of working.
  • A recruiter is likely to listen for an honest first sentence. Saying "yes" when the answer is "no" is a common concern, because it may be checked.
  • They may also listen for one real example, and for what you are already doing to learn local systems.

A 3-line answer shape

Say these in order. Use short sentences and one true example from your own life.

  1. Honest first sentence: Say where most of your experience is from. Do not apologise for it.
  2. What you did, and one example: Your job, how long, and one real example of work that is the same in any country.
  3. How you are learning here: One thing you are doing now to learn the local way of working.

A weaker answer and a stronger answer

Read both answers, then compare them.

A weaker answer may sound like this

No. Sorry. I only have experience in my country.

Example from a nurse who trained abroad

Most of my experience is from Nigeria. I worked for six years as a ward nurse, and the core of the job is the same here: safe care, clear handovers and teamwork. I am learning the local systems now.

Why the stronger answer works better

Why the first one is weaker: It stops at "no" and apologises. The interviewer hears nothing about what you can do.

Use the stronger one as a pattern, not a script. Change every detail to your own true story.

A2-friendly version

Simple English is fine. Start with one of these sentences and finish it with your own words:

  • Most of my experience is from …
  • I worked for … years as a …
  • Now I am learning …

What this site cannot tell you

These pages describe what interviewers commonly look for. They cannot tell you what a specific interviewer decided, and nothing here guarantees an interview, an offer or a visa. Practising is preparation — it shows you what to fix next.
