Interview question of the day: 22 October 2026

The question for 22 October 2026

Tell me about your availability and flexibility.

About this question

  • Type: Availability
  • Usually asked: Screening call
  • Job: Any job
  • Country: Any country

What the interviewer may be listening for

These are things an interviewer may listen for. No page can tell you what one interviewer will decide. Practising helps you prepare; it does not promise a result.

  • A recruiter may be checking whether you understood what this job needs, and whether you will be reliable. Matching two of your real strengths to the role, with one example, usually sounds more suitable than general praise of yourself.

A 3-line answer shape

Say these in order. Use short sentences and one true example from your own life.

  1. Hours: Say clearly which days and hours you can work. Use real times, for example "I can work weekdays from 7 am to 3 pm."
  2. Flexibility: Say honestly where you can be flexible, such as weekends, late shifts or extra hours at short notice, and any fixed limit you have.
  3. Start date: Say when you can start and how much notice you need to give your current job.

A weaker answer and a stronger answer

Read both answers, then compare them.

A weaker answer may sound like this

I can work any time, every day, no problem.

Example from a hotel receptionist interview

I can work early, late and night shifts on a rotating rota, including weekends and bank holidays. The only thing I need is a few days' warning when the rota changes, because I share childcare with my partner. I am on two weeks' notice, so I could start at the beginning of next month.

Why the stronger answer works better

Why the first one is weaker: Saying "I can work any time" when it is not true. It causes problems once you start.

Use the stronger one as a pattern, not a script. Change every detail to your own true story.

A2-friendly version

Simple English is fine. Start with one of these sentences and finish it with your own words:

  • I think I am a good fit because …
  • You need someone who can …, and I have …
  • For example, …

What this site cannot tell you

These pages describe what interviewers commonly look for. They cannot tell you what a specific interviewer decided, and nothing here guarantees an interview, an offer or a visa. Practising is preparation — it shows you what to fix next.
